Welcome!

Medical residents in the Cedars-Sinai Department of Medicine are organizing the first annual “Handle With Care” silent auction event, which will benefit the Indiana University-Kenya Partnership working with HIV/AIDS patients in Kenya.

The event beneficiary is AMPATH – the Academic Model for the Prevention and Treatment of HIV – which operates as part of the IU-Kenya Partnership.  AMPATH maintains 19 clinics throughout western Kenya, which focus on providing a holistic approach to treating HIV/AIDS, including providing an orphanage for the many children left behind, teaching job skills, providing food and teaching patients how to become proficient farmers, and providing a women’s and children’s shelter for those in abusive homes.

The Cedars-Sinai medical residents are currently seeking additional sponsorships for their silent auction – individuals and businesses who can donate money, resources, and/or items for auction.  The IU-Kenya Partnership is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and money and auctionable items will be eligible for charitable tax deductions. In 1989, Indiana University School of Medicine began a partnership with Moi University in Eldoret, Kenya. Their joint vision was to provide healthcare for the people of western Kenya.

Soon after, AIDS began its devastating and relentless attack in Africa. IU and Moi responded by creating one of Africa’s largest, most comprehensive and effective HIV/AIDS control systems: the Academic Model for Prevention and Treatment of HIV/AIDS (AMPATH), which treats over 48,000 HIV-positive patients at 19 sites in both urban and rural Kenya.
